Dr. Matthew Caward Chaplain:

Biography:
Chaplain Caward is a certified Fire Chaplain through the Federation of Fire Chaplains (FFC) and has been a member of the BCFD for nearly 4 years. BCFD Fire Chief John Garcia made history with the County when he appointed Chaplain Caward as the department's very first Fire Chaplain upon his completion of the County's Fire Academy.  BCFD's Fire Academy is a grueling 14 week training academy which trains, certifies and molds qualified recruits into Firefighters through intense Physical fitness training and IFSAC 2 certified fire classes.  Chaplain Caward received the academy's highest honor when he graduated as the County's Top Cadet. Chaplain Caward served 3 years full time as a Firefighter with the county from June 2003 until July 2006, when he left to help his parents in Montana. There he received his calling to be a Fire Service Chaplain and was soon after certified as such through the FFC and has returned to start the chaplaincy program here at BCFD.  "I had a strong prompting and heard a clear message from the Lord that this is what He wanted me to do with the rest of my life," recalls Chaplain Caward. When asked about the state of the program today, Chaplain Caward says, "We are ready now to respond to the needs of this department's members as well as the community we serve."
